Refits
3rd December 2011
We have just completed a major refit on MV Sundancer, owned by Chris Ollivier of Hooked on Barrier Ltd, and we have been uploading photos as we progressed. The final photos show how good she looks now.
The refit included changing the layout in the focsle & wheelhouse as well as a full repaint from wheelhouse roof to bottom. The engine was replaced and the fuel tanks were removed, cleaned, repaired, sandblasted & painted. The owner took the opportunity to have us steamclean and paint the engineroom before the tanks & replacement engine went in.
Mitch built a new wheelhouse floor, a new stern door & a new side wheelhouse door for quick access to the bow area, along with a new bowsprit, new battery boxes etc. He also built new panels for the back of the wheelhouse. This also involved new windows & beads for all the windows.
Mike from Phearless Engineering carried out the engineering work for the engine and tanks, and Whitianga Sandblasting blasted and painted the tanks.
You will find photos of some of our work on other pages like General Boat Painting & Cleaning & Polishing.
The exterior is completely repainted in new colours, with the boottopping in the Hooked on Barrier colour. The bottom was antifouled with black instead of the previous red. Matt has done all the painting on her- interior & exterior and he's done a great job.
Coastal Signs have done all the new signage.
Whitianga Hire was called in various times to take things out & put things back into the boat - engine, tanks, canopy etc.
Karl's new galley & seating looks great. There was a lot of work involved in this & to Karls normal high standard.
Mercury Bay Canvas made all new interior squabs which really helps set it all off.
Chris has fitted new lights, handles, the bbq etc and helped wherever he was needed!
Karl made numerous bits & pieces such as a new dash, compass box, vent boxes etc plus a new table for the wheelhouse.
The canopy was taken off to be repaired & painted then put back on the boat.
There is a new mast for the radar etc and Jim Lambert, marine electrician, did all the wiring.
Prue cleaned & polished the stainless steel.
As the tarps came off it was like, as Chris said, a butterfly emerging. She looks wonderful if we do say so ourselves!
Various local businesses were involved in this refit apart from ourselves and the people mentioned above. Other businesses involved who supplied or made fittings were Mercury Bay Engineering, Pacific Coast Marine & Diesel, Worthy Windows, Peninsula Auto Electric & Marine, Whitianga Hardware & Thames Structural Welders.
She went into the water on Thursday for sea trials which all went well. Chris left for the Barrier yesterday and he has a charter on her today!
Our thanks to Chris for giving us the contract and for being so good to work with.
We'd also like to thank our staff - permanent & part time - for working so hard and to such a great standard!
The Whitianga Marina Hardstand was undergoing a major revamp itself while this refit was going on so they found us a space where we could erect our "tent" and work without being affected by the upheaval. Our thanks to them for doing this.
